About

Rotting food produces methane, which is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. When food is wasted, we also put unnecessary strain on natural resources such as land, water, energy that are used in the production process.

The Alton Community Cupboard was founded with one goal in mind; to help fight food waste and do our bit to protect the planet. Our team of volunteers collect perfectly good surplus food from local supermarkets that would otherwise have gone into landfill, and redistribute it within the local community.

We are not a food bank, but we are proud to support those that are in need whilst also helping the planet one meal at a time. No referrals needed, no questions asked.

All food is checked over before the shelves are stacked each day and any food that cannot be saved is taken to a local farm and fed to the animals.
